BIG DAWG$ ON DECK

So, what's been happening, big dawgs? Well, actually, a lot! I've been busy judging the National Championship and filming Boyd Hilder's 'Off the Couch' jam, as well as lining my stomach with pasta and showing these young bucks that I've been doing this shit for years! There's something amazing about Boyd Hilder's jam that I just have to start with. While I was at the Nationals judging, I saw kids going absolutely wild—some crashing, some stressing themselves out to the point of tears. But then, seeing those same kids at Boyd's 'Off the Couch' jam, just having a blast with everyone, made me so hyped on what he's created. I'm proud that he puts this on for everyone to kick back and simply enjoy the love of BMX together.

DORA DA EXPLORER

So, let's rewind back to The Nationals. I landed the big judging job alongside BMX legends Dilsy and Cam P, and damn—BMX is wild! I've done some crazy stuff back in my day, but every kid there—the girls, everyone—was pulling tricks I would never even attempt.

I watched my first Superman-to-late-bar in person, and for me, that was the highlight. Loupos killed it, and Chris James—WTF! It was a sick weekend. If you missed it, hit up the BACKBONE BMX YouTube channel to check it all out!

UNHINGED

So yeah, that was mad. Saturday started off real wholesome—woke up feeling fresh, went for a solid river walk, then smashed an acai bowl for brekkie like some health guru. After that, hit up the barber to get looking somewhat presentable. Feeling like a million bucks, I was ready to cruise into a chill day... but nah, BMX had other plans.

Next thing you know, I get the call-up to be on the BackBone BMX podcast before the jam. No way I’m saying no to that! So, like the rockstar I am, I jumped in the whip, cranked about 20 different songs—bit of everything, you know how it is—and somehow ended up in Burleigh, ready to talk shit and get amongst it.

I can’t really remember exactly what I spoke about—you’ll have to watch it—but it was mostly about the early days, the importance of BMX videos, and looking good and stylish on a bike.

That went on for an hour, then I went and had a Tommy’s marg after before heading to Pizzy for Boyd’s jam.

Filmed a bunch of sick shit—just click the link and watch the vid. Then came the afterparty. I wasn’t really feeling it, but the boys were in town, and they wanted a show—so we had to give them one. Things got a bit wild… one bar kicked us out, another loved us, and then we ended up at the casino. Oh, and Boyd Hilder? Yeah, he’s out here building a house next to Mick Fanning. Casual.

Anyway, that’s about it for now. I gotta go run 10km with my mate Yonny Shakefield. If you don’t know him, check out the BMX movie Flip Side—you won’t be disappointed.
