Melting John to Movie World

We’re off to the Gold Coast baby. Home of dreams, athletes, hot chicks, and the beach. I’m buzzing for today. Boyd’s absolutely geeeed up — he’s got a list of spots he wants to hit and he’s been putting in the work all week fixing them up. He even pre-warned the group chat to wear boardies, which basically means after the session we’re hitting the beach, punching a few waves just before they break on you, and having a good time. It’s 8:08am. I’m still in Brisbane, parked up at Fraser’s having a caramel cuppa. Didn’t have much time but the service was mint and I’m ready to jump back in the car and head south. On the way to my car, I spot this blonde babe ripping bongs in her car. I’ve seen her doing it a couple of times now, which has me curious — why are you always in your car smoking bongs? She shuts the door, but I’m thinking, heyyyy babyyy, what’s the go here? As I pull out, I notice her heading back upstairs. In my artistic brain, I’m thinking surely I can get a pic of the bong for the blog. So I park back up and investigate. The bong itself was well hidden, but the evidence was loud and clear — chop bowl in plain sight. You beauty. I snap a couple of photos like I’m in the ADF, documenting the chop chop to show the people that weed smoking isn’t just a Hollywood thing. It’s happening right here, right now, in a car park in Brisbane. I need to find out more about this Bong Babe, but that’s a story for another day — we’ve actually got to go film.
BIKE TALK
Anyway, coast time. I’m four minutes late thanks to Bong Babe, but I’m fired up. Let’s see if we can film a backflip today.
With today’s phone tech, I couldn’t really check my phone while driving. I pull up at the spot at 9:04am and realise… the boys are running late. ETA is now 10am. Sitting in the texts is a message from Boyd asking how far away I am, so I’m guessing he’s close.
It’s 9:07am. I’m juiced and ready to film. Might be because I’ve returned to the gym and feel like I’ve got about 30% of my life back, or maybe it’s the brand new white Calvin Klein jocks. Not sure. Just feeling better than I have in a while. Let’s get these clips.
BIG DRAMA TINGS
9:22am
Still sitting in the car, scrolling KX125s online, knowing full well I’ve got nowhere to put one in my apartment — but fuck, I want one. Just something to zip around on. Maybe this is the year of the GC and the KX125.
I won’t zoooop it up too much… just ProTaper bars and a louder pipe so it’s really going nrrrrrrrreeeeing. You know what I’m saying.
9:41am
Boyd and Josh Newman finally pull up. Apparently there was drama on the way and they had to double back to Newman’s place to grab board shorts. I don’t ask questions — just a lazy high five, followed by knuckles, and we’re on.
Boyd whips out the Marshall speaker. Starts mellow, sounds like Tame Impala… then silence… then suddenly he’s blasting the iconic “Come over with the frozen chicken schnitty.”
10:14am
Nathan is so late. Brock Olive rocks up but looks like he’s about to play golf — oh wait, he’s got his bike. Where the fuck is Nathan? He said he was gonna be here at 6am.
10:25am
He finally shows. Disappointed, but the show must go on.
Boyd and Nathan battle the hanger. Newman swoops in. Brock falls over the back. I miss Renato’s trick because I’m watching Spider-Man. Rookie error.
So i forgot the time at this stage, Nathan was yapping to much.
Next spot. Boyd’s not feeling this one — not his day. No Spider-Man in sight, but I get Renato’s trick. Nathan’s talking smack. Next spot again.
I’m at the pin they sent me… but no one’s here. I already know — I’m not at the right spot. Quick call confirms it. Absolute stitch-up.
Then I arrive.
Ohhhhhh man. This spot is sick as fuck. I’ll save it for the video — it’s MAHD.
Nathan’s down! Taken out by a killer wasp. Boyd’s back on though — banger in the bank. First official clip for the new movie is locked.
There’s an up-ledge still on the cards, but we need to wait. The sun’s trash for filming. So now it’s full pro talk, scrolling spot photos, and things get weird when Spenny asks for a tube and Boyd’s goes bang right as he asks. Bit witchy if you ask me.
Brock’s now agitated and sitting in his car. There’s talk of the tavern. No one really knows what’s going on.
Eventually we land on a plan — kill a couple hours until golden hour by hitting the uni across the road.
LOST BOYZ
2:51pm
Uni dazeeee. Rolling around, hoping to avoid security dramas.
Boyd’s struggling with a tube change. Nathan’s ADHD is peaking, nose-manualing around the car park. I’m keen for a glass of Coke and the up-ledge, but we’re fading, bruv. Proper fade.
Time out is called. Then up-ledge. Nathan cannot sit still — might need to drop him at Pizzey Park for three hours to burn energy. Tribe votes: swimming.
Nathan’s yelling, “Did anyone see me nose manual ten car spaces?” He’s so fired up Scotland could hear him.
I’m thirsty. Nathan goes, “I’ve got a Maximus in my bag if you want a swirly.” No idea what that means. He’s also skulling milk.
4:20pm
After a massive “what are we doing?” moment, we sink a couple beers, head into the uni, get kicked out, and finally drive to the up-ledge we’ve been banging on about all day.
5:57pm
Up-ledge was MAHD. Absolutely handled.
We finish at the hip spot with Nathan talking shit non-stop. The sun cooked us perfectly. Everyone’s unhinged.
I feel drunk. Boyd looks wasted and hyped for the pav. Renato needs bed. Brock’s toey as usual. Newman’s full child-spec, running around. Spenny’s lining something up. Nathan will not stop.
After Nathan whips everyone’s bike, that’s a wrap.
Quick swim, then back to the big smoke. I hop into bed, instantly hop out and end up in the bar like a rockstar, and then end up back on the GC riding roller coasters, eating pizza, and doing other stuff.
Good night.
